Perry is Perry is a Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two shows she starred in on Roseanne. Perry was forbidden to begin acting by her parents until adulthood, as they feared the anxiety it could result in. Perry was a shy teenager and was not a performer. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends when she moved to the university from Boston University. After graduating Perry went to New York to search for television work landing small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought the actress back to California and she was able to find theatre jobs. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. Kevin McKidd, her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer prize-winning film Anna Christie together with her in the year 2015. Perry was a part of the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on ABC's show The Family. In 2017, Perry had a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal alongside her father. In the same year, she was cast as a young character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to the character she got the part through an audition.
